We’ll use props for comfort, support and kinesthetic awareness. Get creative with what you have around your home so you don't need to go out and make unnecessary purchases.

Suggested props include: Bolster (couch cushion or firm pillow), Extra pillows, Yoga block (thick book that you can sit/stand on), Blanket for knees, Half Dome (sub rolled up yoga mat), Chair, Yoga Strap (belt or robe tie). Yoga band (elastic), Pool Noodle, A few resistance balls (foam ball, pinky ball, squishy ball, and/or tennis ball), Light hand weights, and one item worth the investment, a Birth Ball with base legs.

Pregnancy and birth are intense physical, mental, and emotional events which require more than understanding medical interventions and creating a birth plan. While those are important, they pale in significance to the importance of understanding our bodies and proactively preparing specifically for the task of birth.

Referred to as the Specificity Principle, how the body responds to physical activity is very specific to the activity itself. In other words, someone who is mentally prepared, physically balanced, and emotionally managing the state of their nervous system in preparation for birth can expect that during their birthing time, they more intuitively find the positions that feel right in their body, relaxing, and allowing the unfolding of their birth process.

Proactive Prep is the missing piece in preparing the mind, body, and nervous system for a more efficient birthing process, better birth outcomes, and smoother postpartum transitions.

As an Active and Certified Body Ready Method® Pro and Body Ready Birth® Educator, I will guide you through simple alignment, movement, and birth preparation tools, focusing on birth physiology and mindset, helping you create and maintain a Labor Flow State, exploring inner work, communication, and education.

“Julie, I went for my appointment and they told me they had to induce right away due to preeclampsia, yikes what a surprise. However once the induction medication kicked in, labor was just as rapidly as with my second kiddo. I guess my body remembered what to do. Since I was in the hospital I wasn’t able to practice many of the positions and counter pressure you recommended, but the visualization about the pelvis helped me move into different positions to move things along. All and all it was a good labor. I was in active labor for like 50 minutes and pushed for maybe 3 minutes, no tearing either. Thank you for teaching this in class. I found the information helpful even though I’ve done it before, because now I know for sure every labor experience is a little different and new!”
